1 τοῦ δὲ ἰησοῦ γεννηθέντος ἐν βηθλέεμ τῆς ἰουδαίας ἐν ἡμέραις ἡρῴδου τοῦ βασιλέως, ἰδοὺ μάγοι ἀπὸ ἀνατολῶν παρεγένοντο εἰς ἱεροσόλυμα

2 λέγοντες, ποῦ ἐστιν ὁ τεχθεὶς βασιλεὺς τῶν ἰουδαίων; εἴδομεν γὰρ αὐτοῦ τὸν ἀστέρα ἐν τῇ ἀνατολῇ καὶ ἤλθομεν προσκυνῆσαι αὐτῶ.

3 ἀκούσας δὲ ὁ βασιλεὺς ἡρῴδης ἐταράχθη καὶ πᾶσα ἱεροσόλυμα μετ᾽ αὐτοῦ,

4 καὶ συναγαγὼν πάντας τοὺς ἀρχιερεῖς καὶ γραμματεῖς τοῦ λαοῦ ἐπυνθάνετο παρ᾽ αὐτῶν ποῦ ὁ χριστὸς γεννᾶται.

5 οἱ δὲ εἶπαν αὐτῶ, ἐν βηθλέεμ τῆς ἰουδαίας· οὕτως γὰρ γέγραπται διὰ τοῦ προφήτου·

6 καὶ σύ, βηθλέεμ γῆ ἰούδα, οὐδαμῶς ἐλαχίστη εἶ ἐν τοῖς ἡγεμόσιν ἰούδα· ἐκ σοῦ γὰρ ἐξελεύσεται ἡγούμενος, ὅστις ποιμανεῖ τὸν λαόν μου τὸν ἰσραήλ.

7 τότε ἡρῴδης λάθρᾳ καλέσας τοὺς μάγους ἠκρίβωσεν παρ᾽ αὐτῶν τὸν χρόνον τοῦ φαινομένου ἀστέρος,

8 καὶ πέμψας αὐτοὺς εἰς βηθλέεμ εἶπεν, πορευθέντες ἐξετάσατε ἀκριβῶς περὶ τοῦ παιδίου· ἐπὰν δὲ εὕρητε ἀπαγγείλατέ μοι, ὅπως κἀγὼ ἐλθὼν προσκυνήσω αὐτῶ.

9 οἱ δὲ ἀκούσαντες τοῦ βασιλέως ἐπορεύθησαν, καὶ ἰδοὺ ὁ ἀστὴρ ὃν εἶδον ἐν τῇ ἀνατολῇ προῆγεν αὐτοὺς ἕως ἐλθὼν ἐστάθη ἐπάνω οὖ ἦν τὸ παιδίον.

10 ἰδόντες δὲ τὸν ἀστέρα ἐχάρησαν χαρὰν μεγάλην σφόδρα.

11 καὶ ἐλθόντες εἰς τὴν οἰκίαν εἶδον τὸ παιδίον μετὰ μαρίας τῆς μητρὸς αὐτοῦ, καὶ πεσόντες προσεκύνησαν αὐτῶ, καὶ ἀνοίξαντες τοὺς θησαυροὺς αὐτῶν προσήνεγκαν αὐτῶ δῶρα, χρυσὸν καὶ λίβανον καὶ σμύρναν.

12 καὶ χρηματισθέντες κατ᾽ ὄναρ μὴ ἀνακάμψαι πρὸς ἡρῴδην, δι᾽ ἄλλης ὁδοῦ ἀνεχώρησαν εἰς τὴν χώραν αὐτῶν.

13 ἀναχωρησάντων δὲ αὐτῶν ἰδοὺ ἄγγελος κυρίου φαίνεται κατ᾽ ὄναρ τῶ ἰωσὴφ λέγων, ἐγερθεὶς παράλαβε τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ φεῦγε εἰς αἴγυπτον, καὶ ἴσθι ἐκεῖ ἕως ἂν εἴπω σοι· μέλλει γὰρ ἡρῴδης ζητεῖν τὸ παιδίον τοῦ ἀπολέσαι αὐτό.

14 ὁ δὲ ἐγερθεὶς παρέλαβεν τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ νυκτὸς καὶ ἀνεχώρησεν εἰς αἴγυπτον,

15 καὶ ἦν ἐκεῖ ἕως τῆς τελευτῆς ἡρῴδου· ἵνα πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν ὑπὸ κυρίου διὰ τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος, ἐξ αἰγύπτου ἐκάλεσα τὸν υἱόν μου.

16 τότε ἡρῴδης ἰδὼν ὅτι ἐνεπαίχθη ὑπὸ τῶν μάγων ἐθυμώθη λίαν, καὶ ἀποστείλας ἀνεῖλεν πάντας τοὺς παῖδας τοὺς ἐν βηθλέεμ καὶ ἐν πᾶσι τοῖς ὁρίοις αὐτῆς ἀπὸ διετοῦς καὶ κατωτέρω, κατὰ τὸν χρόνον ὃν ἠκρίβωσεν παρὰ τῶν μάγων.

17 τότε ἐπληρώθη τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ ἰερεμίου τοῦ προφήτου λέγοντος,

18 φωνὴ ἐν ῥαμὰ ἠκούσθη, κλαυθμὸς καὶ ὀδυρμὸς πολύς· ῥαχὴλ κλαίουσα τὰ τέκνα αὐτῆς, καὶ οὐκ ἤθελεν παρακληθῆναι, ὅτι οὐκ εἰσίν.

19 τελευτήσαντος δὲ τοῦ ἡρῴδου ἰδοὺ ἄγγελος κυρίου φαίνεται κατ᾽ ὄναρ τῶ ἰωσὴφ ἐν αἰγύπτῳ

20 λέγων, ἐγερθεὶς παράλαβε τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ πορεύου εἰς γῆν ἰσραήλ, τεθνήκασιν γὰρ οἱ ζητοῦντες τὴν ψυχὴν τοῦ παιδίου.

21 ὁ δὲ ἐγερθεὶς παρέλαβεν τὸ παιδίον καὶ τὴν μητέρα αὐτοῦ καὶ εἰσῆλθεν εἰς γῆν ἰσραήλ.

22 ἀκούσας δὲ ὅτι ἀρχέλαος βασιλεύει τῆς ἰουδαίας ἀντὶ τοῦ πατρὸς αὐτοῦ ἡρῴδου ἐφοβήθη ἐκεῖ ἀπελθεῖν· χρηματισθεὶς δὲ κατ᾽ ὄναρ ἀνεχώρησεν εἰς τὰ μέρη τῆς γαλιλαίας,

23 καὶ ἐλθὼν κατῴκησεν εἰς πόλιν λεγομένην ναζαρέτ, ὅπως πληρωθῇ τὸ ῥηθὲν διὰ τῶν προφητῶν ὅτι ναζωραῖος κληθήσεται.

1  Now¹¹⁶¹ when Jesus²⁴²⁴ was born¹⁰⁸⁰ in¹⁷²² Bethlehem⁹⁶⁵ of Judea²⁴⁴⁹ in¹⁷²² the days²²⁵⁰ of Herod²²⁶⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ king,⁹³⁵ behold,²⁴⁰⁰ there came³⁸⁵⁴ wise men³⁰⁹⁷ from⁵⁷⁵ the east³⁹⁵ to¹⁵¹⁹ Jerusalem,²⁴¹⁴

2  Saying,³⁰⁰⁴ Where⁴²²⁶ is²⁰⁷⁶ he that is born⁵⁰⁸⁸ King⁹³⁵ of the³⁵⁸⁸ Jews?²⁴⁵³ for¹⁰⁶³ we have seen¹⁴⁹² his⁸⁴⁶ star⁷⁹² in¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ east,³⁹⁵ and²⁵³² are come²⁰⁶⁴ to worship⁴³⁵² him.⁸⁴⁶

3  When¹¹⁶¹ Herod²²⁶⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ king⁹³⁵ had heard¹⁹¹ these things, he was troubled,⁵⁰¹⁵ and²⁵³² all³⁹⁵⁶ Jerusalem²⁴¹⁴ with³³²⁶ him.⁸⁴⁶

4  And²⁵³² when he had gathered⁴⁸⁶³ all³⁹⁵⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ chief priests⁷⁴⁹ and²⁵³² scribes¹¹²² of the³⁵⁸⁸ people²⁹⁹² together, he demanded⁴⁴⁴¹ of³⁸⁴⁴ them⁸⁴⁶ where⁴²²⁶ Christ⁵⁵⁴⁷ should be born.¹⁰⁸⁰

5  And¹¹⁶¹ they³⁵⁸⁸ said²⁰³⁶ unto him,⁸⁴⁶ In¹⁷²² Bethlehem⁹⁶⁵ of Judea:²⁴⁴⁹ for¹⁰⁶³ thus³⁷⁷⁹ it is written¹¹²⁵ by¹²²³ the³⁵⁸⁸ prophet,⁴³⁹⁶

6  And²⁵³² thou⁴⁷⁷¹ Bethlehem,⁹⁶⁵ in the land¹⁰⁹³ of Judah,²⁴⁴⁸ art¹⁴⁸⁸ not³⁷⁶⁰ the least¹⁶⁴⁶ among¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ princes²²³² of Judah:²⁴⁴⁸ for¹⁰⁶³ out¹⁵³⁷ of thee⁴⁶⁷⁵ shall come¹⁸³¹ a Governor,²²³³ that³⁷⁴⁸ shall rule⁴¹⁶⁵ my³⁴⁵⁰ people²⁹⁹² Israel.²⁴⁷⁴

7  Then⁵¹¹⁹ Herod,²²⁶⁴ when he had privily²⁹⁷⁷ called²⁵⁶⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ wise men,³⁰⁹⁷ inquired of them diligently^{198 3844 846} what time⁵⁵⁵⁰ the³⁵⁸⁸ star⁷⁹² appeared.⁵³¹⁶

8  And²⁵³² he sent³⁹⁹² them⁸⁴⁶ to¹⁵¹⁹ Bethlehem,⁹⁶⁵ and said,²⁰³⁶ Go⁴¹⁹⁸ and search¹⁸³³ diligently¹⁹⁹ for⁴⁰¹² the³⁵⁸⁸ young child;³⁸¹³ and¹¹⁶¹ when¹⁸⁷⁵ ye have found²¹⁴⁷ him, bring me word again,^{518 3427} that³⁷⁰⁴ I²⁵⁰⁴ may come²⁰⁶⁴ and worship⁴³⁵² him⁸⁴⁶ also.

9  When¹¹⁶¹ they³⁵⁸⁸ had heard¹⁹¹ the³⁵⁸⁸ king,⁹³⁵ they departed;⁴¹⁹⁸ and,²⁵³² lo,²⁴⁰⁰ the³⁵⁸⁸ star,⁷⁹² which³⁷³⁹ they saw¹⁴⁹² in¹⁷²² the³⁵⁸⁸ east,³⁹⁵ went before⁴²⁵⁴ them,⁸⁴⁶ till²¹⁹³ it came²⁰⁶⁴ and stood²⁴⁷⁶ over¹⁸⁸³ where³⁷⁵⁷ the³⁵⁸⁸ young child³⁸¹³ was.²²⁵⁸

10  When¹¹⁶¹ they saw¹⁴⁹² the³⁵⁸⁸ star,⁷⁹² they rejoiced⁵⁴⁶³ with exceeding⁴⁹⁷⁰ great³¹⁷³ joy.⁵⁴⁷⁹

11  And²⁵³² when they were come²⁰⁶⁴ into¹⁵¹⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ house,³⁶¹⁴ they saw¹⁴⁹² the³⁵⁸⁸ young child³⁸¹³ with³³²⁶ Mary³¹³⁷ his⁸⁴⁶ mother,³³⁸⁴ and²⁵³² fell down,⁴⁰⁹⁸ and worshiped⁴³⁵² him:⁸⁴⁶ and²⁵³² when they had opened⁴⁵⁵ their⁸⁴⁸ treasures,²³⁴⁴ they presented⁴³⁷⁴ unto him⁸⁴⁶ gifts;¹⁴³⁵ gold,⁵⁵⁵⁷ and²⁵³² frankincense,³⁰³⁰ and²⁵³² myrrh.⁴⁶⁶⁶

12  And²⁵³² being warned of God⁵⁵³⁷ in²⁵⁹⁶ a dream³⁶⁷⁷ that they should not³³⁶¹ return³⁴⁴ to⁴³¹⁴ Herod,²²⁶⁴ they departed⁴⁰² into¹⁵¹⁹ their own⁸⁴⁸ country another^{5561 243} way.³⁵⁹⁸

13  And¹¹⁶¹ when they⁸⁴⁶ were departed,⁴⁰² behold,²⁴⁰⁰ the angel³² of the Lord²⁹⁶² appeareth⁵³¹⁶ to Joseph²⁵⁰¹ in²⁵⁹⁶ a dream,³⁶⁷⁷ saying,³⁰⁰⁴ Arise,¹⁴⁵³ and take³⁸⁸⁰ the³⁵⁸⁸ young child³⁸¹³ and²⁵³² his⁸⁴⁶ mother,³³⁸⁴ and²⁵³² flee⁵³⁴³ into¹⁵¹⁹ Egypt,¹²⁵ and²⁵³² be²⁴⁶⁸ thou there¹⁵⁶³ until^{2193 302} I bring thee word:^{2036 4671} for¹⁰⁶³ Herod²²⁶⁴ will³¹⁹⁵ seek²²¹² the³⁵⁸⁸ young child³⁸¹³ to destroy⁶²² him.⁸⁴⁶

14  When¹¹⁶¹ he³⁵⁸⁸ arose,¹⁴⁵³ he took³⁸⁸⁰ the³⁵⁸⁸ young child³⁸¹³ and²⁵³² his⁸⁴⁶ mother³³⁸⁴ by night,³⁵⁷¹ and²⁵³² departed⁴⁰² into¹⁵¹⁹ Egypt:¹²⁵

15  And²⁵³² was²²⁵⁸ there¹⁵⁶³ until²¹⁹³ the³⁵⁸⁸ death⁵⁰⁵⁴ of Herod:²²⁶⁴ that²⁴⁴³ it might be fulfilled⁴¹³⁷ which³⁵⁸⁸ was spoken⁴⁴⁸³ of⁵²⁵⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ Lord²⁹⁶² by¹²²³ the³⁵⁸⁸ prophet,⁴³⁹⁶ saying,³⁰⁰⁴ Out¹⁵³⁷ of Egypt¹²⁵ have I called²⁵⁶⁴ my³⁴⁵⁰ son.⁵²⁰⁷

16  Then⁵¹¹⁹ Herod,²²⁶⁴ when he saw¹⁴⁹² that³⁷⁵⁴ he was mocked¹⁷⁰² of⁵²⁵⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ wise men,³⁰⁹⁷ was exceeding wroth,^{2373 3029} and²⁵³² sent forth,⁶⁴⁹ and²⁵³² slew³³⁷ all³⁹⁵⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ children³⁸¹⁶ that³⁵⁸⁸ were in¹⁷²² Bethlehem,⁹⁶⁵ and²⁵³² in¹⁷²² all³⁹⁵⁶ the³⁵⁸⁸ coasts³⁷²⁵ thereof,⁸⁴⁶ from⁵⁷⁵ two years old¹³³² and²⁵³² under,²⁷³⁶ according²⁵⁹⁶ to the³⁵⁸⁸ time⁵⁵⁵⁰ which³⁷³⁹ he had diligently inquired¹⁹⁸ of³⁸⁴⁴ the³⁵⁸⁸ wise men.³⁰⁹⁷

17  Then⁵¹¹⁹ was fulfilled⁴¹³⁷ that which was spoken⁴⁴⁸³ by⁵²⁵⁹ Jeremiah²⁴⁰⁸ the³⁵⁸⁸ prophet,⁴³⁹⁶ saying,³⁰⁰⁴

18  In¹⁷²² Ramah⁴⁴⁷¹ was there a voice⁵⁴⁵⁶ heard,¹⁹¹ lamentation,²³⁵⁵ and²⁵³² weeping,²⁸⁰⁵ and²⁵³² great⁴¹⁸³ mourning,³⁶⁰² Rachel⁴⁴⁷⁸ weeping²⁷⁹⁹ for her⁸⁴⁸ children,⁵⁰⁴³ and²⁵³² would²³⁰⁹ not³⁷⁵⁶ be comforted,³⁸⁷⁰ because³⁷⁵⁴ they are¹⁵²⁶ not.³⁷⁵⁶

19  But¹¹⁶¹ when Herod²²⁶⁴ was dead,⁵⁰⁵³ behold,²⁴⁰⁰ an angel³² of the Lord²⁹⁶² appeareth⁵³¹⁶ in²⁵⁹⁶ a dream³⁶⁷⁷ to Joseph²⁵⁰¹ in¹⁷²² Egypt,¹²⁵

20  Saying,³⁰⁰⁴ Arise,¹⁴⁵³ and take³⁸⁸⁰ the³⁵⁸⁸ young child³⁸¹³ and²⁵³² his⁸⁴⁶ mother,³³⁸⁴ and²⁵³² go⁴¹⁹⁸ into¹⁵¹⁹ the land¹⁰⁹³ of Israel:²⁴⁷⁴ for¹⁰⁶³ they are dead²³⁴⁸ which sought²²¹² the³⁵⁸⁸ young child's³⁸¹³ life.⁵⁵⁹⁰

21  And¹¹⁶¹ he³⁵⁸⁸ arose,¹⁴⁵³ and took³⁸⁸⁰ the³⁵⁸⁸ young child³⁸¹³ and²⁵³² his⁸⁴⁶ mother,³³⁸⁴ and²⁵³² came²⁰⁶⁴ into¹⁵¹⁹ the land¹⁰⁹³ of Israel.²⁴⁷⁴

22  But¹¹⁶¹ when he heard¹⁹¹ that³⁷⁵⁴ Archelaus⁷⁴⁵ did reign⁹³⁶ in¹⁹⁰⁹ Judea²⁴⁴⁹ in the room⁴⁷³ of his⁸⁴⁶ father³⁹⁶² Herod,²²⁶⁴ he was afraid⁵³⁹⁹ to go⁵⁶⁵ thither:¹⁵⁶³ notwithstanding,¹¹⁶¹ being warned of God⁵⁵³⁷ in²⁵⁹⁶ a dream,³⁶⁷⁷ he turned aside⁴⁰² into¹⁵¹⁹ the³⁵⁸⁸ parts³³¹³ of Galilee:¹⁰⁵⁶

23  And²⁵³² he came²⁰⁶⁴ and dwelt²⁷³⁰ in¹⁵¹⁹ a city⁴¹⁷² called³⁰⁰⁴ Nazareth:³⁴⁷⁸ that³⁷⁰⁴ it might be fulfilled⁴¹³⁷ which was spoken⁴⁴⁸³ by¹²²³ the³⁵⁸⁸ prophets,⁴³⁹⁶ He shall be called²⁵⁶⁴ a Nazarene.³⁴⁸⁰

1 Cum ergo natus esset Jesus in Bethlehem Juda in diebus Herodis regis, ecce magi ab oriente venerunt Jerosolymam,

2 dicentes: Ubi est qui natus est rex Judæorum? vidimus enim stellam ejus in oriente, et venimus adorare eum.

3 Audiens autem Herodes rex, turbatus est, et omnis Jerosolyma cum illo.

4 Et congregans omnes principes sacerdotum, et scribas populi, sciscitabatur ab eis ubi Christus nasceretur.

5 At illi dixerunt: In Bethlehem Judæ: sic enim scriptum est per prophetam:

6 [Et tu Bethlehem terra Juda,
nequaquam minima es
in principibus Juda:
ex te enim exiet dux, qui regat populum meum Israël.]

7 Tunc Herodes clam vocatis magis diligenter didicit ab eis tempus stellæ, quæ apparuit eis:

8 et mittens illos in Bethlehem, dixit: Ite, et interrogate diligenter de puero: et cum inveneritis, renuntiate mihi, ut et ego veniens adorem eum.

9 Qui cum audissent regem, abierunt, et ecce stella, quam viderant in oriente, antecedebat eos, usque dum veniens staret supra, ubi erat puer.

10 Videntes autem stellam gavisi sunt gaudio magno valde.

11 Et intrantes domum, invenerunt puerum cum Maria matre ejus, et procidentes adoraverunt eum: et apertis thesauris suis obtulerunt ei munera, aurum, thus, et myrrham.

12 Et responso accepto in somnis ne redirent ad Herodem, per aliam viam reversi sunt in regionem suam.

13 Qui cum recessissent, ecce angelus Domini apparuit in somnis Joseph, dicens: Surge, et accipe puerum, et matrem ejus, et fuge in Ægyptum, et esto ibi usque dum dicam tibi. Futurum est enim ut Herodes quærat puerum ad perdendum eum.

14 Qui consurgens accepit puerum et matrem ejus nocte, et secessit in Ægyptum:

15 et erat ibi usque ad obitum Herodis: ut adimpleretur quod dictum est a Domino per prophetam dicentem: Ex Ægypto vocavi filium meum.

16 Tunc Herodes videns quoniam illusus esset a magis, iratus est valde, et mittens occidit omnes pueros, qui erant in Bethlehem, et in omnibus finibus ejus, a bimatu et infra secundum tempus, quod exquisierat a magis.

17 Tunc adimpletum est quod dictum est per Jeremiam prophetam dicentem:

18 [Vox in Rama audita est
ploratus, et ululatus multus:
Rachel plorans filios suos,
et noluit consolari, quia non sunt.]

19 Defuncto autem Herode, ecce angelus Domini apparuit in somnis Joseph in Ægypto,

20 dicens: Surge, et accipe puerum, et matrem ejus, et vade in terram Israël: defuncti sunt enim qui quærebant animam pueri.

21 Qui consurgens, accepit puerum, et matrem ejus, et venit in terram Israël.

22 Audiens autem quod Archelaus regnaret in Judæa pro Herode patre suo, timuit illo ire: et admonitus in somnis, secessit in partes Galilææ.

23 Et veniens habitavit in civitate quæ vocatur Nazareth: ut adimpleretur quod dictum est per prophetas: Quoniam Nazaræus vocabitur.
