1  Then Jonah³¹²⁴ prayed⁶⁴¹⁹ unto⁴¹³ the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ his God⁴³⁰ out of the fish's¹⁷¹⁰ belly,^{4480 4578}

2  And said,⁵⁵⁹ I cried⁷¹²¹ by reason of mine affliction^{4480 6869} unto⁴¹³ the LORD,³⁰⁶⁸ and he heard⁶⁰³⁰ me; out of the belly^{4480 990} of hell⁷⁵⁸⁵ cried⁷⁷⁶⁸ I, and thou heardest⁸⁰⁸⁵ my voice.⁶⁹⁶³

3  For thou hadst cast⁷⁹⁹³ me into the deep,⁴⁶⁸⁸ in the midst³⁸²⁴ of the seas;³²²⁰ and the floods⁵¹⁰⁴ compassed me about:⁵⁴³⁷ all³⁶⁰⁵ thy billows⁴⁸⁶⁷ and thy waves¹⁵³⁰ passed⁵⁶⁷⁴ over⁵⁹²¹ me.

4  Then I⁵⁸⁹ said,⁵⁵⁹ I am cast out¹⁶⁴⁴ of^{4480 5048} thy sight;⁵⁸⁶⁹ yet³⁸⁹ I will look⁵⁰²⁷ again³²⁵⁴ toward⁴¹³ thy holy⁶⁹⁴⁴ temple.¹⁹⁶⁴

5  The waters⁴³²⁵ compassed me about,⁶⁶¹ even to⁵⁷⁰⁴ the soul:⁵³¹⁵ the depth⁸⁴¹⁵ closed me round about,⁵⁴³⁷ the weeds⁵⁴⁸⁸ were wrapped²²⁸⁰ about my head.⁷²¹⁸

6  I went down³³⁸¹ to the bottoms⁷⁰⁹⁵ of the mountains;²⁰²² the earth⁷⁷⁶ with her bars¹²⁸⁰ was about¹¹⁵⁷ me forever:⁵⁷⁶⁹ yet hast thou brought up⁵⁹²⁷ my life²⁴¹⁶ from corruption,^{4480 7845} O LORD³⁰⁶⁸ my God.⁴³⁰

7  When my soul⁵³¹⁵ fainted⁵⁸⁴⁸ within⁵⁹²¹ me I remembered^{2142 853} the LORD:³⁰⁶⁸ and my prayer⁸⁶⁰⁵ came in⁹³⁵ unto⁴¹³ thee, into⁴¹³ thine holy⁶⁹⁴⁴ temple.¹⁹⁶⁴

8  They that observe⁸¹⁰⁴ lying⁷⁷²³ vanities¹⁸⁹² forsake⁵⁸⁰⁰ their own mercy.²⁶¹⁷

9  But I⁵⁸⁹ will sacrifice²⁰⁷⁶ unto thee with the voice⁶⁹⁶³ of thanksgiving;⁸⁴²⁶ I will pay⁷⁹⁹⁹ that that⁸³⁴ I have vowed.⁵⁰⁸⁷ Salvation³⁴⁴⁴ is of the LORD.³⁰⁶⁸

10  And the LORD³⁰⁶⁸ spoke⁵⁵⁹ unto the fish,¹⁷⁰⁹ and it vomited out^{6958 853} Jonah³¹²⁴ upon⁴¹³ the dry³⁰⁰⁴ land.

1 καὶ προσέταξεν κύριος κήτει μεγάλῳ καταπιεῖν τὸν Ιωναν καὶ ἦν Ιωνας ἐν τῇ κοιλίᾳ τοῦ κήτους τρεῖς ἡμέρας καὶ τρεῖς νύκτας

2 καὶ προσηύξατο Ιωνας πρὸς κύριον τὸν θεὸν αὐτοῦ ἐκ τῆς κοιλίας τοῦ κήτους

3 καὶ εἶπεν ἐβόησα ἐν θλίψει μου πρὸς κύριον τὸν θεόν μου καὶ εἰσήκουσέν μου ἐκ κοιλίας ᾅδου κραυγῆς μου ἤκουσας φωνῆς μου

4 ἀπέρριψάς με εἰς βάθη καρδίας θαλάσσης καὶ ποταμοί με ἐκύκλωσαν πάντες οἱ μετεωρισμοί σου καὶ τὰ κύματά σου ἐπ᾽ ἐμὲ διῆλθον

5 καὶ ἐγὼ εἶπα ἀπῶσμαι ἐξ ὀφθαλμῶν σου ἆρα προσθήσω τοῦ ἐπιβλέψαι πρὸς τὸν ναὸν τὸν ἅγιόν σου

6 περιεχύθη ὕδωρ μοι ἕως ψυχῆς ἄβυσσος ἐκύκλωσέν με ἐσχάτη ἔδυ ἡ κεφαλή μου εἰς σχισμὰς ὀρέων

7 κατέβην εἰς γῆν ἧς οἱ μοχλοὶ αὐτῆς κάτοχοι αἰώνιοι καὶ ἀναβήτω φθορὰ ζωῆς μου κύριε ὁ θεός μου

8 ἐν τῷ ἐκλείπειν ἀπ᾽ ἐμοῦ τὴν ψυχήν μου τοῦ κυρίου ἐμνήσθην καὶ ἔλθοι πρὸς σὲ ἡ προσευχή μου εἰς ναὸν ἅγιόν σου

9 φυλασσόμενοι μάταια καὶ ψευδῆ ἔλεος αὐτῶν ἐγκατέλιπον

10 ἐγὼ δὲ μετὰ φωνῆς αἰνέσεως καὶ ἐξομολογήσεως θύσω σοι ὅσα ηὐξάμην ἀποδώσω σοι σωτηρίου τῷ κυρίῳ

11 καὶ προσετάγη τῷ κήτει καὶ ἐξέβαλεν τὸν Ιωναν ἐπὶ τὴν ξηράν

‎1 ‏וַיְמַ֤ן יְהוָה֙ דָּ֣ג גָּד֔וֹל לִבְלֹ֖עַ אֶת־יוֹנָ֑ה וַיְהִ֤י יוֹנָה֙ בִּמְעֵ֣י הַדָּ֔ג שְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה יָמִ֖ים וּשְׁלֹשָׁ֥ה לֵילֽוֹת׃

‎2 ‏וַיִּתְפַּלֵּ֣ל יוֹנָ֔ה אֶל־יְהוָ֖ה אֱלֹהָ֑יו מִמְּעֵ֖י הַדָּגָֽה׃

‎3 ‏וַיֹּ֗אמֶר קָ֠רָאתִי מִצָּ֥רָה לִ֛י אֶל־יְהוָ֖ה וַֽיַּעֲנֵ֑נִי מִבֶּ֧טֶן שְׁא֛וֹל שִׁוַּ֖עְתִּי שָׁמַ֥עְתָּ קוֹלִֽי׃

‎4 ‏וַתַּשְׁלִיכֵ֤נִי מְצוּלָה֙ בִּלְבַ֣ב יַמִּ֔ים וְנָהָ֖ר יְסֹבְבֵ֑נִי כָּל־מִשְׁבָּרֶ֥יךָ וְגַלֶּ֖יךָ עָלַ֥י עָבָֽרוּ׃

‎5 ‏וַאֲנִ֣י אָמַ֔רְתִּי נִגְרַ֖שְׁתִּי מִנֶּ֣גֶד עֵינֶ֑יךָ אַ֚ךְ אוֹסִ֣יף לְהַבִּ֔יט אֶל־הֵיכַ֖ל קָדְשֶֽׁךָ׃

‎6 ‏אֲפָפ֤וּנִי מַ֙יִם֙ עַד־נֶ֔פֶשׁ תְּה֖וֹם יְסֹבְבֵ֑נִי ס֖וּף חָב֥וּשׁ לְרֹאשִֽׁי׃

‎7 ‏לְקִצְבֵ֤י הָרִים֙ יָרַ֔דְתִּי הָאָ֛רֶץ בְּרִחֶ֥יהָ בַעֲדִ֖י לְעוֹלָ֑ם וַתַּ֧עַל מִשַּׁ֛חַת חַיַּ֖י יְהוָ֥ה אֱלֹהָֽי׃

‎8 ‏בְּהִתְעַטֵּ֤ף עָלַי֙ נַפְשִׁ֔י אֶת־יְהוָ֖ה זָכָ֑רְתִּי וַתָּב֤וֹא אֵלֶ֙יךָ֙ תְּפִלָּתִ֔י אֶל־הֵיכַ֖ל קָדְשֶֽׁךָ׃

‎9 ‏מְשַׁמְּרִ֖ים הַבְלֵי־שָׁ֑וְא חַסְדָּ֖ם יַעֲזֹֽבוּ׃

‎10 ‏וַאֲנִ֗י בְּק֤וֹל תּוֹדָה֙ אֶזְבְּחָה־לָּ֔ךְ אֲשֶׁ֥ר נָדַ֖רְתִּי אֲשַׁלֵּ֑מָה יְשׁוּעָ֖תָה לַיהוָֽה׃ ס

‎11 ‏וַיֹּ֥אמֶר יְהוָ֖ה לַדָּ֑ג וַיָּקֵ֥א אֶת־יוֹנָ֖ה אֶל־הַיַּבָּשָֽׁה׃ פ

Vul

1 Et præparavit Dominus piscem grandem ut deglutiret Jonam: et erat Jonas in ventre piscis tribus diebus et tribus noctibus.

2 Et oravit Jonas ad Dominum Deum suum de ventre piscis,

3 et dixit: [Clamavi de tribulatione mea ad Dominum,
et exaudivit me;
de ventre inferi clamavi,
et exaudisti vocem meam.

4 Et projecisti me in profundum in corde maris,
et flumen circumdedit me:
omnes gurgites tui, et fluctus tui super me transierunt.

5 Et ego dixi:
Abjectus sum a conspectu oculorum tuorum;
verumtamen rursus videbo templum sanctum tuum.

6 Circumdederunt me aquæ usque ad animam:
abyssus vallavit me,
pelagus operuit caput meum.

7 Ad extrema montium descendi;
terræ vectes concluserunt me in æternum:
et sublevabis de corruptione vitam meam, Domine Deus meus.

8 Cum angustiaretur in me anima mea,
Domini recordatus sum:
ut veniat ad te oratio mea,
ad templum sanctum tuum.

9 Qui custodiunt vanitates frustra,
misericordiam suam derelinquunt.

10 Ego autem in voce laudis immolabo tibi:
quæcumque vovi, reddam pro salute Domino.]

11 Et dixit Dominus pisci, et evomuit Jonam in aridam.
